Williams: Inabinet Senior Citizen Network A Success

PHILADELPHIA, March 26 – State Rep. Jewell Williams, D-Phila., said last week’s Joseph B. Inabinet Senior Citizen Network meeting informed many seniors about the importance of estate planning and ensuring that their assets are protected for maximum personal benefit.

The event was held in partnership with the Richard Allen Hildebrand Community Center, Susquehanna Neighborhood Advisory Council and Jones Tabernacle Community Associates.

“This was one of our best forums yet; the attendees were engaged, they asked extremely good questions, and as a result, the forum ran on for hours,” Williams said. “I am pleased we were able to provide this valuable service to the community.”

A panel of experts ranging from funeral directors to attorneys attended the meeting. Sanjai Weaver and Zarwin and Baum law firms presented information on how to plan an estate. The Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and the Social Security Administration also led informative discussions.

“Estate planning is a process that involves your family, other individuals and, in some cases, charitable organizations,” Williams said. “People should not put off some of the difficult decisions that come with planning and should instead look at it as a way to protect loved ones. It’s very important to address future needs in case you ever become unable to care for yourself.”

Williams explained that many people mistakenly think that estate planning only involves the writing of a will. Estate planning, however, can also involve financial, tax, medical and business planning.

The next Senior Network forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 and will focus on voter education and the upcoming Pennsylvania primary. For more information or to register for the forum, residents should contact Williams’ constituent service office at 215-763-2559.
