Youngblood offering help to residents who qualify for economic stimulus tax rebate
PHILADELPHIA, April 3 – State Rep. Rosita Youngblood, D-Phila., announced that residents who are looking to receive the federal government's economic stimulus refund payment this spring but have not yet filed a 2007 federal income tax return or 1040A form with the Internal Revenue Service, must do so to be eligible for the refund.
Youngblood reminded senior citizens on fixed incomes and other residents who are not normally required to file a federal tax return that they will have to file one this year to qualify for the stimulus payment. She said her office, located at 5736 Greene St., will assist residents of the 198th Legislative District in obtaining and filling out the proper forms to qualify to receive the tax rebate.
"There are many seniors in my district who do not normally fill out a tax return because they are on a fixed income and rely solely on Social Security," Youngblood said. "My office can help them, and other residents who may not think they qualify for this one-time rebate, fill out the forms so that they do not miss out on this money. A check for $300 could mean a lot to many of my constituents who are struggling to make ends meet."
Beginning in May, the federal government will be sending economic stimulus payments of between $300 and $1,200 to more than 130 million households across the U.S. There also is a $300-per-child payment for qualifying children younger than 17. Youngblood said that residents simply need to file a 2007 federal tax return in order to put the stimulus payment process in motion. For those filing a tax return solely for the economic stimulus program, Youngblood encouraged residents to file as soon as possible, but to be sure they receive the payment in 2008, participants must file by Oct. 15.
