Parker to host conference for area teens on relationships and violence

PHILADELPHIA, June 16 – State Rep. Cherelle L. Parker, D-Phila., in partnership with Youth Emergency Service, and Dr. Patrick McManus and Family Medicine at Jefferson University, will be holding a conference just for teenagers.

The event, titled "Teens: Taking Charge of Your Life" will provide information, dialogue and solutions on issues facing area teens.

The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Alumni Hall, 1020 Locust St. in Philadelphia.

Parker said the conference will feature food, entertainment, prizes and music. Workshops titled "The 17-year-old Virgin" and "Should LOVE Hurt?" will allow for open discussions on sex, abstinence, relationships and violence.

"It is very difficult being a teenager today with so many issues and peer pressures to deal with," Parker said. "This event will offer a safe and open venue so that teens can talk about the problems they are facing and gain a sense of relief to know that they are not alone. There is a lot of pressure on teens and half the battle is finding ways to educate them and allow them the freedom to ask questions."

Those interested in attending the conference must register for the event. More information can be found on Parker's Web site, www.pahouse.com/parker, or by contacting her constituent service office at 215-242-7300.
