Parker’s Back-to-School Rally to be held Sept. 5
Donated uniforms accepted at district office
PHILADELPHIA, July 17 – On Friday, Sept. 5, state Rep. Cherelle L. Parker, D-Phila., along with Future Minds and Young Entrepreneurs Striving for Success, will host a back-to-school rally in eight area schools to encourage youth from the Greater Philadelphia area to stay in school.
Parker will visit Franklin S. Edmonds, Eleanor Emlen, John Story Jenks, Lankenau Motivational, Morris E. Leeds, John F. McCloskey and New Media Technology, and lead 30-minute rallies at each location.
This year, Parker's office will also sponsor a uniform drive leading up to the rallies. New and gently used collared shirts and pants in navy, khaki and black will be accepted and provided to children who qualify in those schools. Donations can be made until Aug. 20 and can be dropped at Parker's district office at 1536 E. Wadsworth Ave.
"This is the second annual set of rallies I will be conducting in area schools," Parker said. "I think it is imperative that adults in the community come together to encourage our youngsters to keep a positive outlook about school, show them the importance of an education, and provide them with exciting information about the upcoming year. I hope my own journey can act as a model for students and keep them engaged in their education and community."
As in the previous year's rally, 800 school supplies and book bags will be provided to students in need.
More information is available by contacting Parker’s constituent service office at 215-242-7300 or visiting her Web site at www.pahouse.com/parker. Those interested in the event can call 215-713-4566 or e-mail mascott1111@msn.com.
