REMINDER: Parker’s back-to-school rally scheduled for Sept. 5
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 28 – On Friday, Sept. 5, state Rep. Cherelle L. Parker, D-Phila., along with Future Minds and Young Entrepreneurs Striving for Success, will host a back-to-school rally in eight area schools to encourage youth from the Greater Philadelphia area to stay in school.
Parker will lead 30-minute rallies at Eleanor C. Emlen Elementary School, Franklin S. Edmonds Elementary School, John F. McCloskey Elementary School, John Story Jenks Elementary School, Lankenau Motivational High School, Morris E. Leeds Middle School, New Media Technology Charter High School and Philadelphia Military Academy High School.
This year, Parker's office also sponsored a uniform drive in conjunction with the rallies. She will distribute those uniforms to children who qualify, along with 1,000 book bags and supplies to the students attending the rallies.
Also joining Parker at the rallies will be the Philadelphia 76ers Dancers.
"I think it is vitally important that children start out the school year in a positive and motivated frame of mind," Parker said. "By giving them the supplies and other essentials they need, I think they can set their minds to their work and other tasks at hand. Either we as a community come together to make a difference in these kids' lives, or we are setting them up for disappointment down the road. It takes us all to raise the children of our communities and provide them with the guidance they need and that is so critical to their success as young people. Let's encourage them to be productive members of the community and give them that vested interest that keeps them engaged in what's going on around them."
For more information, contact Parker’s constituent service office at 215-242-7300, or visit her Web site at www.pahouse.com/parker.
