Parker notifies students of scholarship opportunities

 

HARRISBURG, Oct. 21 – Two scholarship opportunities are available to Pennsylvania high school students, according to state Rep. Cherelle Parker, D-Phila.

 

The Horatio Alger Association administers two scholarship programs – the Franklin Scholarship Program and the Pennsylvania Scholarship Program – each of which offers a total of $250,000 in scholarship funding to Pennsylvania teens who have risen above adversity in their lives to maintain good grades and stay active in their communities.

 

The Franklin Scholarship Program awards 25 $10,000 scholarships in Pennsylvania. The program is funded through The Pew Charitable Trusts, and is designed to heighten student understanding of the contributions of Benjamin Franklin and Horatio Alger Jr.

 

The Pennsylvania Scholarship Program offers 50 $5,000 scholarships and is funded by Joseph and Jeanette Neubauer of the Neubauer Family Foundation.

 

To be eligible for either scholarship, a student must:

 

 

In addition, Franklin Scholarship applicants must produce two essays on Benjamin Franklin during the application process. Students who submit essays for the Franklin Scholarship are automatically considered for the Pennsylvania Scholarship.
