State Store move, census focus of Myers local meeting Tuesday

PHILDELPHIA, March 27 -- State Rep. John Myers, D-Phila., will host a community meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 35 W. Chelton Ave. in Germantown, to address two issues of concern to local residents.

Myers said a prime focus will be the upcoming 2010 U.S. census and the impact that it will have on the community. In addition, information will be available on how area residents can learn about employment opportunities with the Census Bureau.

"In order to be counted and in order to get services and to make certain our city gets the governmental funding we need to help our neighborhoods, residents must participate in the census count," Myers said. "By having representatives from the census at our meeting, they can dispel myths and rumors about being counted, and everyone will leave with a clearer understanding of why the 10-year count is so critical."

The meeting will also allow residents to hear from representatives of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board about the proposal to relocate the Wine and Spirits Store from its Chelten Avenue and Knox Street site, to a new location at DeBeary Square at 35 E. Chelten Ave.

"The Wine and Spirits Store relocation proposal is a situation in which I want to make certain that area residents know about this plan and can provide input before it is implemented and that they don't learn about it until after the fact when it is too late for neighborhood input," Myers said.
