Myers sponsoring job workshops May 11, third annual job fair May 13
PHILADELPHIA, April 30 -- As the local, state and national economies continue to struggle to get stabilized, state Rep. John Myers, D-Phila., is preparing to host his third annual job fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Janes Memorial United Methodist Church, 47 E. Haines St.
About 35 employers have confirmed their participation. Each job seeker is encouraged to bring several copies of his or her resume. Some of the employers will do on-site job interviews, and business attire is required. Certain positions will require criminal background checks and drug screening.
To help ensure that job seekers are prepared to succeed at the fair, Myers also is sponsoring a pre-job fair scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 11. That event will include workshops on resume writing, interviewing techniques, job readiness, and online job application training. Information will also be provided for ex-offenders seeking to re-enter the workforce.
Myers has hosted numerous job fairs in conjunction with other elected officials. For the last three years, he’s done this job fair as a solo event. However, this year, due to legislative votes and committee meetings on the state budget and other pressing concerns, Myers himself will be in Harrisburg during the job fair.
"While I am not going to be in the district that day, the work of the people gets done and that is why I have qualified staff on hand to keep progress moving," Myers said. "People need jobs and they need them now."
More information about the job fair can be obtained by calling Myers' office at (215) 849-6896.
