APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE OPENS 2010/11 BUDGET

WITH ECONOMIC HEARING AND JOBS SUMMIT

HARRISBURG (Jan. 26, 2010) – The Pennsylvania House Appropriations Committee begins its annual hearings on the state budget at 9 a.m. Thursday, January 28 in Room 60 East Wing with a day-long session devoted to discussions of economic conditions, banking and credit policies and job creation.

"Our challenge this year is to focus on the public policies that allow us to create jobs even as the state continues to climb out of the national economic crisis," said state Rep. Dwight Evans, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. "My office has said all along the recovery will be slow, but it will happen. I continue to remain optimistic about the state’s ability to deliver services to seniors, veterans, children and vulnerable citizens; to invest in policies that will help us create and maintain jobs; and to keep a strong bond rating and solid fiscal position."

The morning session at 9 a.m. will be devoted to economics and finance, including a discussion about banking and credit as it relates to citizens and small businesses. The afternoon session at 1 p.m. will feature a jobs summit with representatives from all regions of the state discussing ways to help regional economies grow and create jobs.
