Latrobe senior center to receive $76,000 grant

HARRISBURG, Feb. 22 -- State Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong/Indiana, today announced that the Latrobe Center for Active Adults will receive a $76,717 state grant through revenues provided by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

“Senior community centers provide countless educational and recreational opportunities to improve seniors’ quality of life," Petrarca said. “The funding provided by the lottery is important for Pennsylvanians who want to age at home and in their own communities.”

Petrarca said the Latrobe Center for Active Adults, located at 15 Avenue C, Latrobe, offers a fulfilling agenda of events, activities and meals through the Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging.

“I congratulate the center and the hundreds of clients it serves each week as this grant will help enrich the social, emotional and physical well-being of older adults in the community,” Petrarca said.

Senior Community Center grants totaling $2 million and administered by the state Department of Aging were awarded to 38 senior community centers statewide. The awards are to be used to modernize facilities, improve technology, enhance innovative programming, attract new members, build on successful practices and to better meet the needs of participants.
