March is final month to apply for heating assistance via LIHEAP
VANDERGRIFT, March 3 -- State Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong/Indiana, today reminded residents that March is the last month to apply for heating assistance through LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
“LIHEAP offers one-time cash grants of $200 to $1,000 that are sent directly to the utility company, and crisis benefits of $25 to $500 for households in immediate danger of losing heat,” Petrarca said. “While it’s been a relatively mild winter so far, I urge anyone who may be eligible to inquire before the March 31 application deadline.”
Petrarca said this season’s income guidelines for LIHEAP grants are $17,820 for an individual, $24,030 for a couple and increase with each additional person in an eligible household.
Online applications may be completed by visiting www.compass.state.pa.us. Paper applications are available through local county assistance offices: for Armstrong County – 1280 N. Water St., Kittanning, 724-543-6076 or 1-800-543-5105; for Indiana County -- 2750 West Pike Road, Indiana, 724-357-2918 or 1-800-742-0679; for Westmoreland County – 587 Sells Lane, Greensburg, 724-832-5524 or 1-800-905-5413, or 909 Industrial Blvd., New Kensington, 724-832-5524 or 1-800-622-3527.
