State Rep. Shimkus joins the Pennsylvania Breathe Free Coalition at a news conference in the Capitol Rotunda to implore the state legislature to ban smoking in public buildinga. The urgency of the request was illustrated by thousands of white lilies strewn on the Rotunda steps that represented the thousands of Pennsylvanians who die every year from exposure to secondhand smoke.

Rep. Shimkus joins other legislators from northeastern Pennsylvania to call for passage of legislation (H.B. 1989) that would provide state funding for flood control and mitigation projects, and financial assistance to homeowners and businesses that sustain damage in floods.
