More on the TrAIL
As the House Majority Leader and the state legislator for the 50th Legislative District, I will work steadfast, and use all the resources of my office, to assure that the natural resources and the public estate here in Greene County; our forest, farmland, parks, and recreational areas, are preserved for your children and your children's children.
Along with the negative health impact on children and families, below are some additional points for why the TrAIL is bad for our area.
- The route selected by Allegheny Energy will harm Greene County's potential for securing open-space and conservation easements and/or establishing and maintaining agricultural and forest preserves.
- The electric capacity will not be used for the benefit of the citizens of Greene County... Allegheny Energy has not proven or attempted to show that the transmission line is needed for the energy needs of Greene County or to assure electric reliability in Greene County.
- The route selected by Allegheny Energy will undermine state agricultural and forest protections under the PA Farmland and Forest Land Assessment Act (Clean and Green Act), the Agricultural Conservation Easement Act, the Wild Resources Conservation Act, the Conservation and Natural Resources Act, the Air Pollution Control Act, and the Conservation and Preservation Easements Act.
- The selected route has the potential of undermining Federal law, including the National Environmental Policy Act, American Farm and Ranch Protection Act, and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act.
- The selected route would do ecological and environmental harm to the forests and open-space and there has been no indication that an environmental review of the selected route will be performed to ascertain the impact of subsidence and other adverse topological occurrences which may adversely affect the stability of the land area.
Also, Article 27 of the Constitution of Pennsylvania states that:
Natural resources and the public estate.
The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the
preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic
values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural
resources are the common property of all the people, including
generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the
Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of
all the people.
