As a legislator in his first term, Rick has authored several bills designed to benefit the 151st District and beyond including: legislation preventing the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) Willow Grove from becoming a civilian or commercial airport; legislation allowing college to be more affordable for students and families by increasing funding for the Dual Enrollment Program; legislation protecting children and families by strengthening Megan’s Law in Pennsylvania: and legislation protecting and allocating funding for The Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA). He was appointed by Speaker Dennis O’Brien as a Commissioner for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. He serves on the Budget and Revenue Committee for the National Conference of State Legislators. In addition, Rick has been asked to serve as a delegate for the American Council of Young Political Leaders. Rick grew up as the only child of a single mother. Her hard work and values are represented in his life, through his commitment to making sure that the American Dream is not only available to those who can afford it, but to those who are willing to work hard to see it comes true. While earning his bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota, Rick interned with the Minnesota House of Representatives, handling pay and labor and interned with the late Sen. Paul Wellstone as a constituent advocate. He counts the Senator as a major influence in the shaping of his philosophy that serving constituents is the most important aspect of public service. Rick also earned a master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. Rick is an active member of Ambler Mennonite Church and volunteers with the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network. He lives in Ambler Borough with his wife Jeanne and children, Amelija and Freddie. |
