HARRISBURG, Dec. 21 – State Rep. W. Curtis Thomas, D-Phila., this week was appointed to serve as Democratic chairman of the House Commerce Committee.

"While I have enjoyed my tenure as chairman of the House Urban Affairs Committee, I am excited to take on the responsibilities of my new position," Thomas said.

Thomas said his new chairmanship will allow him to oversee the movement of legislation that could have major impacts on Pennsylvania's economy.

The House Commerce Committee reviews and deliberates on all legislation involving the banking industry and financial services industries, economic development agencies and programs, and housing agencies and programs, as well as provides legislative oversight for regulations proposed for those areas of the economy.
