The Marcellus Shale gas formation underlies approximately 2/3 of the Commonwealth (54 of 67 counties) at a depth of 5,000 to 8,000 feet and is believed to hold trillions of cubic feet of natural gas. As we develop the shale, we must act responsibly in how we regulate the industry to ensure our natural resources and our local communities are protected.
