Protect Education Programs and Funding

Education is critical to economic strength. The Republican budget plan ignores this principle and short-changes our children by slashing funding for basic and higher education

The Republican budget for education will:

  • Force school districts to increase property taxes.
  • Cut or eliminate funding for proven early childhood education, teacher development and public libraries.
  • Jeopardize the state's ability to compete for $4.35 billion in federal competitive grants (Race to the Top).
  • Cause the loss of federal funds that are based on state funding efforts (Title 1 funds).

At a time when we should be elevating education as a means to economic recovery, the Republican budget eliminates or jeopardizes proven programs and makes higher education out of reach. Tell your state lawmakers that you support public and higher education and they should too.
