What do you think?

In response to the opening of the Special Session on Transportation, I introduced a bill that would provide the funds needed to get mass transit systems and road and bridge maintenance back on track.

The legislation would implement a toll at the state border on each of Pennsylvania's interstate highways, such as Interstates 78, 80, 81 and 95. This is referred to as gateway tolling. It would NOT include the plan to place tolling booths at various locations along Interstate 80.

Passenger vehicles would pay $1 while commercial vehicles would pay $5 when crossing a border terminal in and out of Pennsylvania ONLY. The bill also would allow for pre-purchased tolls at discounted rates.

1. What is your primary transportation concern?
Road and bridge upkeep
Mass transit

2. I would raise money for transportation in Pennsylvania by:
Raising the gas tax
Increasing vehicle registration fees
Placing tolling booths at Pennsylvania's borders along most interstates

3. Do you support gateway tolling booths along Pennsylvania's interstates at the borders?
Yes
No

4. If passenger vehicles would be required to pay $1 and commercial trucks $5 when crossing in or out of Pennsylvania, it could raise about $300 million a year for transportation needs. I feel the tolling rates are:
Fair
Too high
Too low

5. Would you support gateway tolling if you could pre-purchase tolls at discounted rates?
Yes
No
