Rep. Lawrence Curry discusses the importance of removing bisphenol A (BPA) from infant and toddler products with Ursinus College Professor Rebecca Roberts during a Jan. 14 hearing on a bill he has introduced. His legislation would prohibit the manufacture or sale in Pennsylvania of baby bottles, training cups, formula cans or other child-care items that contain BPA. The estrogen-like chemical can be dangerous to children and adults as it has been linked to a range of health disorders including autism, obesity, learning and behavioral problems, early puberty, prostate and breast cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

As a member of the House State Government Committee, Rep. Curry participated in a hearing in December on H.B. 2083, which would prevent the attorney general from being eligible for the governor’s office until four years after he or she leaves office.

Slow and steady wins the race. After some heated debate, the state House of Representatives on May 5 passed Rep. Curry's legislation that would name the Eastern box turtle the official state reptile.
