As chairman of the House Insurance Committee, Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny, played a key role in passage of legislation (H.B. 1150) that would require insurance companies in Pennsylvania to cover autism services for children under 21. DeLuca (front) participates in the House bill signing ceremony, a required step before legislation can go to the governor and be signed into law. Pictured with DeLuca are Speaker Dennis O'Brien, R-Phila.; Rep. Nicholas Micozzie, R-Delaware, minority chairman of the Insurance Committee; and Rep. John Pallone, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong. DeLuca calls passage of the legislation a victory for families with children who have autism. The bill also includes a requirement that insurance comapnies cover colorectal cancer screening for people under 50 who are at high risk for the disease.

Rep. Tony DeLuca of Allegheny County talks with residents of the Schuylkill Manor assisted living facility in Pottsville about legislation that would create an Office of Consumer Insurance Advocate.  DeLuca, chairman of the House Insurance Committee, held a public hearing at the facility and heard testimony from citizens and health-care professionals who are in favor of the proposal.
 The House Insurance Committee is continuing to hold hearings on health-care issues in communities across the state.

Rep. DeLuca joins Sen. Mike O’Pake and other state lawmakers in welcoming volunteers of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to the state Capitol. The organization held a news conference and rally as part of its annual Mission Day to increase patient awareness of cancer clinical trials. DeLuca is the prime sponsor of legislation that would require insurance companies to cover the cost of routine care for patients enrolled in cancer clinical trials.
