Rep. Neal P. Goodman was elected to be part of the House Democratic leadership team and serve as caucus administrator for the 2013-14 legislative session. In that role, he will be responsible for ensuring caucus operations run smoothly. A graduate of East Stroudsburg University, Goodman has been actively involved in state government for more than two decades. He started his career in public service with the House Democratic research office, and served as chief of staff to retired state Rep. Edward J. Lucyk from 1993 to 2002. During his tenure as top aide, Goodman served as executive director for the Veterans Affairs Committee, as well as the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, and as an alternate for Rep. Lucyk to the State Employees Retirement System (SERS) Board. Goodman served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1988 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. A combination of military and state government experience has enabled Goodman to become an integral part of his home community. From 1988 through 1996 he served as a Mahanoy City borough councilman. He was a member of the Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Mahanoy City Borough Council's Vacancy Board, the Director of the Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau and Board member to MAJIC Corporation. Goodman is the proud recipient of the American Legion's State Adjutant General's Award, the VFW's State Distinguished Service Award, and the Chapel of the Four Chaplains Award. His legislative priorities include real prescription drug benefits, property tax reform and education funding reforms. Goodman resides in Mahanoy City with his wife Victoria. They have three children, Megan, Shannon and Neal Patrick. |
