Rep. Goodman was pleased to help announce the recent awarding of a $1 million state grant to Schuylkill Women in Crisis from the Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program. SWIC will use the funding to expand and modernize its facilities. The announcement was made at The Grateful Thread, the Pottsville business SWIC operates. Rep. Goodman visited with the New Jersey, faith-based J.U.N.E. Project ’08 volunteers on Aug. 7 at the Barefield Community Center in Pottsville.

The 100-plus volunteers spent a week in Schuylkill County working on several projects for Schuylkill Community Action and the community. Those projects included tackling landscaping and stream restoration efforts in Pottsville’s Elm Street Community while painting windows at the YMCA there. The group also gutted a home for rehabilitation in Mahanoy City.  Rep. Goodman also toured the various on-going Pottsville Elm Street Community revitalization projects situated in his district.

Rep. Goodman joins Gen. George A. Joulwan, a Pottsville native and past supreme commander of NATO forces, at the dedication of the Medal of Honor Monument in Joulwan Park in Pottsville.
