The 193rd Session of the PA House of Representatives began as all 203 members took the oath of office on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, was elected Speaker of the House by a unanimous vote. He is the first Democrat elected to that position since the 1993-94 session. - 2/6/2009

During the swearing-in ceremony for members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland of Delaware County said House Democrats are again serving in the majority and working in a bipartisan way so that more laws can be passed to protect the people of Pennsylvania.
