Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland says the General Assembly should not approve a House Republican budget plan that ignores the needs of Pennsylvania's children, single mothers, the disabled and the elderly. The 193rd Session of the PA House of Representatives began as all 203 members took the oath of office on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. Rep. Keith McCall, D-Carbon, was elected Speaker of the House by a unanimous vote. He is the first Democrat elected to that position since the 1993-94 session. - 2/6/2009


During the swearing-in ceremony for members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland of Delaware County said House Democrats are again serving in the majority and working in a bipartisan way so that more laws can be passed to protect the people of Pennsylvania.

Rep. Kirkland, who is the newly seated chairman of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee, joined 202 other state legislators to take the oath of office Jan. 6 to mark the opening of the 2009-10 legislative session.
