Rep. Nick Kotik was first sworn in to the House of Representatives in January 2003 as the state representative for the 45th Legislative District. Throughout his time in office, the legislature has made vast improvements in the fields of health care, education and the recovery of the city of Pittsburgh, but there's more work to be done. Issues that affect older Pennsylvanians, addressing the growing nursing shortage and maintaining a reliable transportation system remain at the top of his legislative "to-do" list.

Kotik represents a portion of Allegheny County including parts of Collier, Kennedy, Robinson, Scott, South Fayette and Stowe townships, and the boroughs of Bridgeville, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Heidelberg, McKees Rocks and Pennsbury Village. The 45th Legislative District encompasses the following school districts: Carlynton, Chartiers-Valley, Cornell, Montour, South Fayette and Sto-Rox.

He brings extensive public service experience to the House of Representatives. He is a graduate of Sto-Rox Senior High School and received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1972. Kotik went on to work for Allegheny County as a payroll accountant, municipal representative, and property assessor.

Prior to being elected, he served as assistant to former state Rep. Fred Trello and also as manager of Robinson Township, where he currently resides. Kotik has held elected office as a borough controller and two-term council member and has received many appointments, including president of the McKees Rocks Planning Commission, member of the Sto-Rox Bicentennial Committee and ordinance officer and treasurer for McKees Rocks Borough.

Currently, Kotik serves on the Robinson Township Emergency Medical Services Board and was named to the Pittsburgh Airport Authority in June 2005. He is actively involved in the local community as a member of the McKees Rocks Development Corporation, the William Penn Association and the McKees Rocks Lions Club.

Within the General Assembly, Kotik currently serves on the following standing House committees: Professional Licensure; Commerce, where he also serves as subcommittee chairman on Economic Development; Insurance; Tourism & Recreational Development; and Majority Policy. In previous terms, he served on the Health and Human Services and Urban Affairs committees. He also served as Democratic secretary of the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee.
