HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
December 1, 2006

Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip

A Democratic Majority - a brighter future for PA

On Tuesday, a 23-vote margin of victory for Rep.-elect Barbara McIlvaine Smith of Chester County completed an epic nationwide Democratic sweep and put the House Democrats back into the Majority at the State Capitol.

With House Democrats driving the agenda, narrow special interests will have to take a backseat to working families.

Democrats had to fight hard just to get a fair hearing on issues like raising the minimum wage or stopping mandatory overtime for nurses when the Republicans were in charge, but now the issues that really matter are going to be at the TOP of the list for debate in 2007. Click here for a preview of what House Democrats have in mind!

New Priorities - YOUR Priorities

House Democrats are going to work immediately and team up with Governor Ed Rendell to:

  • Cut Property Taxes - we've already come a long way and gaming funds are rolling in, but we can and should do more for homeowners
  • Improve access to quality, affordable health care - all Pennsylvanians should be able to afford to see a doctor when they get sick
  • Cover All Kids - insuring children to keep them healthy and give parents peace of mind
  • Protect our environment - making sure we keep creating jobs and growing, but doing it with smart planning for the future
  • Make government more accountable to the people

And that's just scratching the surface! 2007 is going to be an amazing year at the Capitol thanks to the millions of voters who spoke clearly and said "It's time for a Legislature that fights for US."
