HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
June 8, 2007

Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip

Democrats Moving PA Forward

Pennsylvania has more miles of highways than all of New England- plus New York - put together, and every day millions of people go to work using our mass transit systems. House Democrats recognize our role as the Crossroads of the Nation and that we need to make long-term investments to treat transportation as a whole - and do it right the first time. It's been more than a decade since we made any significant changes to highway funding and inflation has left our investments in the dust -- we're only getting about 78 cents on the dollar under those old formulas.

But there's more to improving our transportation system than increasing the funding. House Democrats have taken the lead on common-sense plans to break our foreign-energy addiction and create high-tech, high-wage jobs right here in the Keystone State.

Lawmakers like Rep. Eugene DePasquale and Rep. Matt Smith are working hard to advance Governor Rendell's Energy Independence Strategy with an eye on protecting our green spaces and protecting the green in your wallet -- click here to hear about Smith's proposal to promote green buildings in Pa.

Tune in this weekend to Pennsylvania's Future: Agenda for Action to learn more as DePasquale and House Majority Whip Keith McCall discuss how Democrats are fighting to keep Pennsylvania moving. Click here for a preview.
