HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
September 7, 2007

Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip

Getting us OFF the Middle East Oil habit

Today Pennsylvanians will send $82,191,780 overseas to buy energy. House Democrats want to invest in innovation right here at home by helping us to declare our Energy Independence with a comprehensive package of bills to promote new, state-based, energy industries and cut energy bills for you and your family.

You can check in on the latest on Energy Independence by joining State Rep. Matt Smith on Pennsylvania's Future: Agenda for Action this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the Pennsylvania Cable Network. Click here for a preview and check your local listings for other air times in your area.

Saving lives by supporting health care innovation

We'd like to take a moment to offer our sincere congratulations to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for their breakthrough discovery of stem cells that could lead to cures for Muscular Dystrophy and prevent heart attacks. House Democrats, led by Chelsa Wagner and Matt Smith, want to invest in our research hospitals like UPMC and biotechnology firms to make cutting-edge medical innovation the rule, not the exception.

We want to save lives and help bring more high-tech, high-wage jobs to the Commonwealth with the Jonas Salk Legacy Fund, but Senate leaders say they're "just too busy" to take up the bill. If, like us, you think those Senators should get to work and help sick people get well, just click here to make sure your voice is heard.

Preventing crime and improving neighborhoods

This week the House Majority Policy Committee's Public Health and Violence Prevention Task Force takes to the streets of Pennsylvania for a series of hearings to get public input on how we can stop crime and violence in every part of the state by bringing community and civic leaders together.
