HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
November 30, 2007

Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip

Open records and more fill House agenda

The House State Government Committee met this week and unanimously approved House Bill 2072, clearing the way for all House lawmakers to vote to improve the state’s Right-to-Know law and usher in a new era of open government. We'll vote on the measure next week and hope to reach an agreement with the Senate on open records before the end of the year. You can read more about the bill here.

While open records moves forward, so do the House Democrats on a variety of issues important to Pennsylvanians, including health-care reform, energy independence, property tax reform and consumer protection.

House Democrats have already taken steps to place Pennsylvania at the forefront nationally in the fight to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired infections and to improve access to health care in more areas of the state. Now our House Insurance Committee is examining additional proposals to cover all Pennsylvanians with insurance and provide greater access to medical care.

And while Washington, D.C. is working out details on the subprime mortgage crisis that has hit homeowners and financial institutions in Pennsylvania and across the nation, we recognize the urgency and are working on a resolution to further urge movement on this issue. Do you believe the federal government should put an immediate freeze on home mortgage foreclosures? Click here to take our online poll.
