State Budget Update

With two weeks before the new fiscal year begins, progress on a new state budget continues. Under Chairman Dwight Evans, the House Appropriations Committee positioned a budget bill that benefits all Pennsylvanians for a vote in the House the week of June 23.

At the same time, Chairman Jim Roebuck and the House Education Committee has reported out legislation that makes smart investments in our children and begins the process of building a new school funding formula that will finally provide all Pennsylvania public schools with the resources they need to provide a quality education.

Don't forget that we've already sent the Senate several bills that reflect our priorities to improve health care, shore up our economic progress and get on the road to energy independence. All Pennsylvanians stand to benefit from these initiatives.

If everyone cooperates, a new budget can be in place by July 1.

So we urge our colleagues to roll up their sleeves with us and get down to business. Let's save the fireworks for the 4th of July.
