HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP LETTERS
July 11, 2008
Rep. Bill DeWeese, Majority Leader
Rep. Keith McCall, Majority Whip |
New Strategies and Sound Budgeting
House Democrats
this month achieved much of what we set out to accomplish from our spring agenda. Governor Ed Rendell has or will soon sign into law priorities for which we stood firm, including education, energy and economic development.
We balanced the state budget with no tax increase and maintained our commitment to previously scheduled business tax cuts, all amid a struggling national economy.
Our solid
investments in education will not only help Pennsylvania's schoolchildren succeed, but, when combined with revenue from slots, will also go a long way toward alleviating the need for school boards to rely so heavily on property taxes.
We'll bolster our strong economic climate by refueling programs that fix our infrastructure while boosting job creation.
Our energy strategy will move us toward independence from foreign oil, with investments in and incentives for in-state generated alternative fuels and energy.
You can read more about the accomplishments attained on behalf of Pennsylvanians, along with other issues we're working on, by visiting our Web site,
