Gov. Ed Rendell signs H.B. 2179, introduced by Rep. Daley (left) into law. The legislation, part of a package of mortgage reform bills enacted by the General Assembly, will reduce mortgage foreclosures and protect homeowners and communities in Pennsylvania.

House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese and Sen. Richard Kasunic look on as Governor Ed Rendell signs Senate Bill 949 into law. The new law provides strong mine safety safeguards for Pennsylvania's bituminous coal miners. DeWeese was instrumental in getting the bill through the House.

Rep. Bill Keller, pictured at right, stands with fellow Philadelphia lawmakers to announce their agreement urging the relocation of two planned casinos from the city's waterfront.

Rep. Frank Dermody looks on as Gov. Ed Rendell signs his proposal to prevent child abuse. The law requires DPW to review and report on each child fatality and serious injury that stems from child abuse, while creating uniform standards for county children and youth agencies reviewing and reporting on these cases. Also pictured are Rep. Katie True and Sen. LeAnna Washington seated next to the governor, who also were involved in the bill becoming law.

As chairman of the House Insurance Committee, Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny, played a key role in passage of legislation (H.B. 1150) that would require insurance companies in Pennsylvania to cover autism services for children under 21. DeLuca (front) participates in the House bill signing ceremony, a required step before legislation can go to the governor and be signed into law. Pictured with DeLuca are Speaker Dennis O'Brien, R-Phila.; Rep. Nicholas Micozzie, R-Delaware, minority chairman of the Insurance Committee; and Rep. John Pallone, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong. DeLuca calls passage of the legislation a victory for families with children who have autism. The bill also includes a requirement that insurance comapnies cover colorectal cancer screening for people under 50 who are at high risk for the disease.
