The Pennsylvania House Commerce Committee recently had a chance to tour Solar Power Industries in Belle Vernon, Pa. Pictured from left are Rep. State Rep. Lawrence Curry, D-Montgomery/Phila., welcomes fourth graders from Glenside Elementary School and their teachers to the state Capitol May 5 to witness the House of Representatives pass H.B. 621, which would designate the Eastern Box Turtle as Pennsylvania's official reptile. The students originally proposed the legislation as a class project aimed at saving the species, whose numbers are declining in Pennsylvania.

Fourth graders from Glenside Elementary School visit the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as state Rep. Lawrence Curry's guests to witness the passage of H.B. 621, which would designate the Easter Box Turtle as the official state reptile. The bill, which was proposed by the students as part of a class project, was passed by the House and is now being considered by the state Senate.

State Rep. Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, speaks at a Capitol news conference about a bill he has introduced (H.B. 704) to equitably fund special education in Pennsylvania. Rep. Barb McIlvaine Smith, D-Chester, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Special Education, and Rep. Jim Roebuck, D-Phila., the House Education Committee chairman, are lead sponsors on the legislation.
