Meet Rick Mirabito, who began serving in the state Legislature in 2009. His road to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives began across state lines, spanned the globe and led him to the city of Williamsport, where he represents the 83rd Legislative District in the General Assembly. His education, diverse career and business expertise increased his desire to serve the public and led him to become your state representative. Two days after he was born, Rick's father passed away, leaving his mother to raise five children as a single parent. Because she was a school teacher, Rick believes that education is essential. Rick graduated from Cornell University and Boston College Law School, and became an attorney. His law experience resulted in his going to a small island nation, the Republic of Palau, where he served as court counsel to its Supreme Court. In 1989, Rick served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Malcolm Muir in Williamsport, the city he now calls home with his wife, Sara. There, his vision for rural revitalization was fueled as his focus turned to investing in and renovating substandard buildings in the area. Once rehabilitated, these buildings are rented to many students of the Pennsylvania College of Technology, which has produced tax revenues for the area. His experience as a small-business and restaurant owner is the driving force behind his vision for economic development, as he is one of the founding fathers and the current president of the Greater Williamsport Landlord Association, as well as the chairman of the organization committee of the Main Street project and a board member of Our Towns 2010. As your state representative, Rick plans to work to decrease property taxes by utilizing some of the money earned from natural gas exploration on State Game Lands, remedy the issues surrounding the Chesapeake Bay cleanup plan and fight the spread of crime. |
