Rep. Kevin Murphy, D-Lackawanna: One of nine siblings, Kevin Murphy grew up in the hard-working, blue-collar community of Scranton. Raised with Irish Catholic ideals, Murphy is hard working, compassionate and persistent in his pursuits and endeavors. Murphy graduated high school from Scranton Tech. He attended Lackawanna Junior College and the University of Scranton where he played centerfield for the Royals. "Murph" and his wife Denise have four children: Kasey, Kevin, Michael and Paul Joseph, known as "PJ." Murphy has been involved in public service for most of his adult life: he was a city councilman for four years, serving as its president from 2002-04. Before being elected to the House in November 2008, he worked as an auditor at the State Auditor General’s Office for seven years. He also serves on his church’s council at the Holy Rosary Parish in Scranton, where he coaches the parish's basketball teams. He also is a coach for Tripp Park Miss-E Softball League. A dedicated community servant, Murphy is just getting started as he begins his tenure as state representative for the 113th Legislative District. He is committed to bettering his community and serving his constituency. Murphy's goals are to be a champion of workers’ rights, an advocate for seniors and working families, and an ally for health-care reform. |
