Tax preparation and rebate help available at Wheatley’s office

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 1 – “Don’t give Uncle Sam more of your hard-earned dollars than you have to” – that’s state Rep. Jake Wheatley’s advice to constituents this tax season.

Wheatley is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistor preparer at his office to allow moderate and low-income residents of the 19th Legislative District to receive free help with their tax returns. In addition to federal returns, constituents may also receive assistance at his office with their state and city income tax returns. Free electronic filing of the returns is also available.

Senior citizens and others who qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program can receive free help at Wheatley’s office in preparing their rebate forms.

Wheatley said constituents can call ahead for appointments or stop by. Walk-ins for tax help are welcome from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and appointments are accepted for times from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Wheatley’s office, also known as “The People’s Office,” is located at 2015-2017 Centre Ave. The phone number is 412-471-7760.

The 19th Legislative District includes part or all of these neighborhoods: the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Allentown, Hazelwood, Downtown, the Bluff, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Manchester, Arlington, Arlington Heights, and West, South and North Oakland.
