News conference, roundtable Monday at Capitol
on minority-owned, women-owned business legislation
HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 – State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, will host a news conference and roundtable discussion at the state Capitol Monday in connection with the second annual Minority/Women/Disadvantaged Businesses Lobby Day.
The news conference will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28 in the main Capitol rotunda, and the roundtable discussion will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 8(A) East Wing.
Wheatley and other legislators will be joined at both events by these speakers:
- Nichol Giles, interim director, African American Chamber of Commerce, Philadelphia;
- Reginald Williams, author, facilitator and CEO, Procurement Resources Inc., Atlanta, and a consultant to corporate management and government;
- Anthony "Nick" Nichols, president and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Minority Supplier Development Council, Pittsburgh;
- Kris Kirk, president and owner of Mentors Consulting & Training, Pittsburgh;
- Jeffery Lawrence, president/CEO of Forefront Construction, Pittsburgh;
- Patricia M. Gingrich, president/CEO and business owner, American Personnel Managers & Consultants, Inc., Camp Hill; and
- Leland Nelson, president of the African American Chamber of Commerce, Harrisburg, and president and co-founder of Dirty Dog Hauling.
Last year, the House unanimously passed comprehensive legislation (H.B. 2149) advocated by Wheatley that would have made reforms benefiting small businesses and minority-owned, women-owned and disadvantaged-owned businesses across Pennsylvania. However, the Senate failed to act on the legislation before the session ended. The legislation resulted from the work of a select committee Wheatley chaired.
