Wheatley to receive Afterschool Champion award Tuesday in Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, March 7 – State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, will receive an Afterschool Champion award Tuesday from the Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network.
The award will be presented during the PSAYDN annual meeting reception, which will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at the Harrisburg Hilton, Second and Market streets.
Media coverage is invited.
Each year, the network seeks out Afterschool Champions who demonstrate over and above dedication and inspiration to others in the afterschool and Out-of-School Time community. Afterschool Champions are nominated by their peers, program directors, educators, funders, community leaders or others who have observed and benefited from one’s contributions.
"We need a strong social safety net to have strong and safe neighborhoods and communities in Pittsburgh and across Pennsylvania. Afterschool programs must continue to be a part of that safety net," Wheatley said.
Wheatley is serving his fifth term in the House of Representatives. He serves on the House Education, Human Services, Local Government and Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness committees, as well as the House Democratic Policy Committee. He also serves on the boards of several community organizations and agencies.
Wheatley represents the 19th Legislative District, which includes historic Pittsburgh neighborhoods such as the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Allentown, Hazelwood, Downtown, the Bluff, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Manchester, Arlington, Arlington Heights, and West, South and North Oakland.
