Wheatley hosting Community Appreciation Day Sept. 10
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 2 – State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, will host his ninth annual Community Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Kennard Field, located off Reed Street between Kirkpatrick and Soho streets in the Hill District.
Wheatley emphasized that the event is for all residents of the 19th Legislative District, which includes part or all of these Pittsburgh neighborhoods: the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Allentown, Hazelwood, Downtown, the Bluff, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Manchester, Arlington, Arlington Heights, and West, South and North Oakland.
"I will be there to answer your questions and concerns, and together we can continue to move our community forward as one," Wheatley said.
Wheatley said the day will include games, food, entertainment and information on state services, plus residents can:
Wheatley's office is arranging transportation to Community Appreciation Day from certain locations – people who are interested should contact his office before 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at 412-471-7760.
Before Community Appreciation Day opens, Wheatley will run in the first annual Uphill 5K Run/Walk that morning through the Hill District and Uptown as part of his commitment to encouraging healthier living and improving public health. Wheatley also ran the full Pittsburgh Marathon in May.
"I am committed to promoting healthy living, not only for my fellow African Americans who often lag behind in many indicators of good health, but for everyone. Not everyone can run or walk 5 miles at once, but nearly all of us – of every race – can get more active. I will also continue advocating to restore vital health care funding that was cut in the Corbett-Republican state budget this year," Wheatley said.
