Dermody welcomes Maria Donatucci to House

HARRISBURG, Feb. 2 – House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody congratulated Rep.-elect Maria Donatucci on her stunningly large victory in Tuesday’s special election and looks forward to welcoming her to Harrisburg as the newest member of the House of Representatives and the Democratic Caucus.

Dermody spoke to Mrs. Donatucci last night after her election in the 185th District was confirmed in unofficial returns. The district includes portions of southwest Philadelphia and eastern Delaware County.

"Maria was a full partner with her late husband Bob Donatucci during his many years of service in the House, so she already knows what it takes to be a great representative," Dermody said.

Her arrival will bring the number of women representatives currently serving to 33, the highest to date.

"Bob Donatucci was taken from us much too suddenly last fall and we have felt his absence," Dermody said. "Having Maria Donatucci come here to succeed Bob is very fitting and she is going to do a great job for the people of her district."

Once the result of the special election is officially certified by the Department of State, a swearing-in date for Donatucci will be announced by Speaker Sam Smith.
