Dermody responds to health care ruling
HARRISBURG, June 28 – House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody commented on today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that upholds the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
“This is a great victory for Americans that will lead to better health care for all. The ruling provides certainty going forward for patients, small businesses, doctors and the health-care providers that are some of Pennsylvania’s largest employers.
“Clearly Pennsylvania now needs to move forward with implementing parts of the act that fall to the states, including establishing and funding the health insurance exchange so that consumers can get the information they need to make informed decisions.
“Two years and millions of dollars went into challenging this law. The court has spoken. It’s time to move on to next steps. While Governor Corbett opposed the law, and even joined the lawsuit against it when he was a candidate for governor, I hope he will not be a roadblock and expect that he will work to the best of his ability to carry out the law.
“Ultimately, this law makes the businesses of Pennsylvania more competitive and it better equips the people of Pennsylvania with the tools to control and manage their own health care.”
