Dermody statement on passing of Sen. O’Pake
HARRISBURG, Dec. 27 – House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody made this statement upon learning of the passing of state Sen. Michael O’Pake of Berks County:
“From the time he was a young man, Senator Mike O’Pake spent his life speaking up for those who often have trouble being heard, first in the House and then in a long and storied Senate career. His work was a model for the rest of us and he improved the lives of thousands of people.
“Even when his Senate duties required long hours at the Capitol, he returned home to Reading every chance he got to talk with the people he served because he knew that allowed him to be a better advocate for them in state government.
“Mike O’Pake has been a central figure in Berks County and Harrisburg for decades. His sudden loss is hard to accept, but I am grateful to have known him and will remember the lessons he taught me. May God bless the good senator.”
