Recycling grants awarded for Washington County
HARRISBURG, May 4 – State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, announced today that Washington County will receive over $12,000 in recycling grant funding from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Under the County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program, Washington County will receive $8,981. The money will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator’s salary and expenses.
In addition, Carroll Township in Washington County will receive $3,368 in grants under the Recycling Performance Grant Program. This funding is based on the 359 tons recycled for the 2007 calendar year and the municipality’s population.
The recycling Performance Grant Program provides an incentive to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and promote economic growth in the Commonwealth through job creation and market expansion. This grant is in addition to the funds that the Department of Environmental Protection allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.
