House Commerce Committee to hold hearing in Pittsburgh
on mortgage foreclosure conciliation
HARRISBURG, May 14 – The state House Commerce Committee will hold a public hearing on legislation requiring mortgage lenders to meet with homeowners in trouble before a judge permits a foreclosure.
The hearing will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 20 at Allegheny County DCED, Regional Enterprise Tower, 425 Sixth Ave., Eighth Floor, Pittsburgh.
The legislation (H.B. 1042), introduced by Rep. Michael McGeehan D-Phila., is before the committee, which will look at efforts already underway in some county courts to require conciliation meetings.
The committee chairman, state Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, said McGeehan’s bill would require the Court of Common Pleas in each county to establish a residential mortgage foreclosure conciliation program to assist lenders and borrowers in achieving a mutually agreeable resolution to mortgage foreclosure action.
