House Commerce Committee to hold hearing in Philadelphia
on mortgage foreclosure conciliation
HARRISBURG, May 27 – The state House Commerce Committee will hold a June 4 public hearing on legislation requiring mortgage lenders to meet with homeowners in trouble before a judge permits a foreclosure.
The committee will begin with observing Judge Annette Rizzo’s mortgage foreclosure conciliation program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in courtroom 676 Philadelphia City Hall, Broad and Market streets, Philadelphia.
Directly following the observation, the committee will hold a discussion session with Rizzo from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in room 380 City Hall.
The public hearing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in courtroom 285 City Hall.
The legislation (H.B. 1042), introduced by Rep. Michael McGeehan D-Phila., is before the committee, which will look at efforts already underway in some county courts to require conciliation meetings.
The committee chairman, state Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, said McGeehan’s bill would require the Court of Common Pleas in each county to establish a residential mortgage foreclosure conciliation program to assist lenders and borrowers in achieving a mutually agreeable resolution to mortgage foreclosure action.
MEDIA COVERAGE IS INVITED TO ALL EVENTS.
