Daley donates turkeys for free Thanksgiving dinner
MONONGAHELA, Nov. 23 -- State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-Washington/Fayette, presented St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Monongahela with turkeys to be used for feeding the hungry this Thanksgiving.
The free dinner will be open to the public on Thanksgiving Day from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church.
"This is something I like to do annually to give back to the community," Daley said. "It's the time of year for giving, and I'm thankful I'm able to continue this tradition."
This will be the ninth year that Daley has donated turkeys to places in the 49th Legislative District. Overall, more than 500 people will be fed by the donation of 12 turkeys.
Jim Lewis, volunteer chairman at St. Anthony’s said: "With the economy the way it is there are more individuals who are in need. We expect more people this year for dinner including take outs and home delivery. I am reminding everyone that this isn’t just a meal for the homeless, it is for anyone who may be lonely or needs a meal on Thanksgiving Day."
The turkeys that have been donated by Daley are coordinated and combined with other donated food items and products.
