Petrarca announces almost $9 million in grant funds for Westmoreland County

HARRISBURG, July 14 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced today that almost $9 million in grant funding has been awarded to Westmoreland County for sewer and wastewater system improvements related to several ongoing projects.

The funds are broken down as follows:

·         $2.49 million to the Westmoreland County Industrial Park Authority for the Upper Pine Run sewer extension project to support the consolidation of sanitary sewer systems in Upper Burrell and Washington townships,

·         $641,333 to the Latrobe Municipal Authority for a skid-mounted centrifuge supply and installation project in Latrobe,

·         $800,000 to the Municipal Authority of Washington Township to assist the Pine Run sewer project in Washington Township to update aging private wastewater treatment systems, and

·         $4.9 million to the Municipal Authority of Washington Township for the Puckety Creek sewer project in Washington Township to update sewers and an aging private wastewater treatment system.

"Infrastructure investments such these sewer and water projects play a huge role in improving the quality of life in western Pennsylvania and creating and sustaining jobs to power our economy," Petrarca said. "I am glad that these grants are available during these tough economic times when municipal budgets are already stretched thin. I am confident that we will continue to support this ongoing investment in our region's clean water infrastructure."

Petrarca added that additional H2O PA grant funding will be available next year.

Funds for these grants come from the H2O PA grant program, which provides grants to municipalities or municipal authorities to assist with the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects. The program is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency that evaluates and administers funding for projects that create jobs and invest in the state’s financial growth.
