Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival recognized with grant

HARRISBURG, Sept. 21 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced today that the Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival is receiving a $1,414 grant from the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.

The grant will help fund the festival, which will take place on June 5, 2010, and will feature a one-day festival, a juried art competition and a three-month artwork display.

"Pennsylvania's rural areas are home to some of the state's most exciting, innovative and unique arts," Petrarca said. "In addition to showcasing the beautiful artwork created by talented local and regional artists, rural arts programs such as the Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival serve as economic development strategies to revive our rural economies. In addition to stimulating substantial employment and tax revenues, arts enterprises are highly entrepreneurial and attractive to tourists. The arts also create a highly desirable quality of life that draws businesses, artists and other workers to further stimulate the economy."

This project is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts through its regional arts funding partner, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, and is administered in Westmoreland and Armstrong counties by the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.
