Petrarca announces recycling coordinator grant for Armstrong County

HARRISBURG, Sept. 28 – State Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, today announced that Armstrong County has been awarded a $14,985 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Petrarca said the grant will be used to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator's salary and expenses. The funding was awarded under the County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program, which was established by Act 101 of 1988, the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act. This initiative promotes economic growth and provides municipalities and counties with incentives to increase the amount of recyclable materials recovered from the waste stream.

"Raising public awareness about recycling and the state's support for recycling programs will enable all of us to reduce what we throw away and preserve our natural resources," Petrarca said.
