Barbin tax credit for veterans bill moves forward
HARRISBURG, June 18 – State Rep. Bryan Barbin’s legislation establishing the Vets First Tax Credit has been reported unanimously from the House Finance Committee. It is now poised for consideration by the full House.
"Veterans returning to civilian life as a group now face an unemployment rate twice that of the general population," said Barbin, D-Cambria. "After the sacrifices they have made, I believe we should do whatever we can to help get these men and women back into the workforce."
Under H.B. 2065, if a small business with less than 100 employees hires a veteran, it will receive a Vets First tax credit of $4,000 per year. The tax credit is available for each veteran hired and can be renewed annually for four years.
Barbin included a provision which requires the state Department of Revenue to report on the program annually to the General Assembly.
