Democratic Policy Committee to hold public hearing on state budget cuts Wednesday in East Lansdowne
EAST LANSDOWNE, Feb. 17 – House Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, announced today that the committee will hold a public hearing on the local impacts of cuts contained in Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed state budget from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the East Lansdowne Borough Hall, 155 Lexington Ave., East Lansdowne.
State Rep. Margo Davidson, D-Delaware., requested the hearing and will serve as co-chair. The hearing will focus on Gov. Corbett’s cuts to basic education, child care and human services.
The current hearing agenda is:
- 10 a.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
- 10:10 a.m. – Panel of local school districts:
Ø Louise DeVlieger, superintendent, Upper Darby School District
Ø Joseph Otto, chief financial officer/board secretary, William Penn School District
- 10:50 a.m. – Sekela Coles, member, Upper Darby School District PIP
- 11:10 a.m. – Marianne Bellesorte, senior director of policy, Pathways PA
- 11:30 a.m. – Christie Balka, director of child care and budget policy, Public Citizens for Children and Youth
- 11:50 a.m. – Wendy Leary, assistance director, Exceptional Learning Academy.
- 12:10 p.m. – Closing remarks
The hearing is open to the public and media coverage is invited.
